I know that almost any surname can be Jewish except perhaps Coen, Israel and Levy which are almost automatically taken as Jewish. But I am interested in surname PORTERO. It is probably Sephardic. I would appriciate if someone could direct me to the historical records where I can find more about it.
Need some help for a friend of mine.His family name is Nahmijas, late father Mirko Nahmijas Sephardi Jew from Bosnia born in Banja Luka. But father lived and died in Belgrade, Serbia. He was a general in former Yugoslav army.He recently heard that his family is from Portugal not Spain.He knows little about family history because father did not talk much about it.
